South Wales councils are owed more than £29m in unpaid bills (or an eye-watering 5.3 Welsh NHS’s), according to today’s South Wales Echo. The story itself is unsettling. It is the ordinary taxpayers who will end up footing the bill.

And while getting value for money is important, Disgusted is rather disturbed at the onward march of the Taxpayers’ Alliance. For journalists, unable or unwilling to leave their desks to investigate stories, they’re a dream. Dial them up whenever you need an outraged quote about spending on this or that. But these advocates of cuts and slashes to public sector spending are supposed to represent ‘us’, the taxpayers. Disgusted doesn’t feel represented by them.
